Rörelse (Movement)

Rörelse (Movement) is a choreographed concert which Noah Hellwig created together with the orchestra Musica Vitae and their artistic director, violinist Malin Broman.
Premiere 23rd of November 2019 at Dansstationen/Palladium, Malmö.

The concert moves from baroque dance with music of Rameau, Couperin and Bach to later travel through time with a short visit to Stenhammar to later go through early twentieths century classical music based upon dances like tango and tarantella with Piazzola and Schulhooff, to later be switched up with looping melodic minimalism of Richter, Balanescu and Reich, as well as two newly composed pieces by the Swedish composers Britta Byström and Malin Bång which explores other ways of relating sound and music to movement.

The choreography of the concert tries to bring light to the natural movements of the fifteen musicians playing music as well as trying to highlight other aspects inside the music through movement. The choreography is, similarly to the vast styles and eras of the music, created with different methods of how we have worked with movement and choreography through the ages. There is the movement as establishing ones status, there’s some dancing for the own pleasure, there is some danced looped phrases, as well as movement based upon scores and tasks and to top it off there is some beautiful classical dance formations sprinkled in there as well.
